Shapes are always a key part to any logo. They make the company name easier too remember.

Select the elliptical marquee tool, hold down shift then click and drag to make a circle.

Now while still on the elliptical marquee tool hold down alt and draw another circle that overlaps the previously drawn one. Then make a new layer.

Edit>Fill>Black

Now right click the layer and go to blending options, and add these.

Now you should have something like this

Try using different sizes and colors. Here's how I used this in one of my graphics.
